The City of Bayonne has grown dramatically in the recent past, with over 10,000 new residential units constructed in the last decade. Mass transportation has been taxed by these new residents, and the City is working to expand capacity and options. In 2018, the City and Matrix New World Engineering (Matrix) applied for and received a Federal Highway Authority grant to construct a commuter ferry terminal at the Peninsula at Bayonne Harbor to serve commuters to Manhattan.
