Matrix New World Engineering Executive Elected Board of Trustee Member

Venetia Lannon is the newest of distinguished members to join
The FUND for Lake George

Florham Park, NJ - Venetia Lannon, Vice President, Matrix New World Engineering (Matrix) has been elected to the Board of Trustees of The FUND for Lake George.

The FUND of Lake George set forth an initiative to protect the lake through community partnerships, innovative science-guided projects, and direct investment in lake-protection efforts. Venetia will serve as a great addition to the board for not only her expertise but her passion for the lake. Lannon is inspired by FUND’s approach toward efficiently managing and tackling the challenges that pose a threat to the lake.

“Venetia is a powerful addition to our Board, and we are honored to have her time and expertise working on the Lake’s behalf,” said Chairman Jeff Killeen. “I had the good fortune of working with Venetia on numerous occasions while she was in the Executive Chamber and always came away impressed with her intelligence, her innovative approach to problem-solving and her passion for environmental protection. Lake George, and The FUND for Lake George, are fortunate to have Venetia in our corner.”

Lannon is based in Matrix’s New York city office where her numerous responsibilities include climate adaptation services with a focus on nature-based systems for waterfront facilities and stormwater management.

“Their science-guided approach, their partnerships with local businesses and local governments, and the innovative ways they think about the Lake combine to create a true model for freshwater protection,” Lannon said. “I’m excited about becoming part of it.”

According to Jayne Warne, PE, President, Matrix, “We encourage all of our employees to give back to the community and environment, and we are proud to have Venetia use her talents to enhance the well-being and beauty of Lake George. Her expertise and passion will help to ensure that the waters and environment are preserved for future generations.”

Lannon’s extensive waterfront, environmental, and governmental affairs knowledge and experience will serve The FUND well. As Deputy Secretary for the Environment with the New York State Office of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo, she oversaw all aspects of the State's environmental agencies, including the Department of Environmental Conservation, Office of Parks Recreation & Historic Preservation, Environmental Facilities Corporation, Hudson River Park Trust, and the Adirondack Park Agency. Lannon joins the following distinguished members of The FUND’s Board of Trustees: Chairman Jeff Killeen, Vice Chairman and Chief Development Officer Bob Bailey, Vice Chairman William Creighton, Secretary and Strategic Initiatives Officer Tom West, Chief Financial Officer Ike Wolgin, Lucinda H. Bhavsar, David Darrin, George R. Hearst III, Blair Keller, Dr. John E. Kelly III, Dr. John Johnston Macionis, Nancy Reuss, Donald Rice, and Dr. Linda Schadler.

As a member of Governor Cuomo’s cabinet, Lannon was lauded for her role in passing the $2.5B Clean Water Infrastructure Act, launching the Environmental Justice/Just Transition Working Group, leading the Governor’s Water Quality Rapid Response Team, and overseeing the largest addition to the Forest Preserve in the Adirondack Park’s history.

In her previous role as Regional Director of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, she oversaw all aspects of the agency’s work in New York City, and as Senior Vice President of the New York City Economic Development Corporation, she led the Maritime Group, where she was instrumental in the development of the East River Ferry service, the reactivation of the South Brooklyn freight rail system, and the barge-served recycling facility at the South Brooklyn Marine Terminal; she was a key contributor to New York City’s Solid Waste Management Plan and the first lead of Mayor Bloomberg’s Waterfront Management Advisory Board.
